Mavic has offered the Aksium for several years now, with several upgrades over time. Although Mavic considers this their entry level model, the Aksiums are generally lighter, more durable, and features more technology than you would expect from an entry level product. In this version, the WTS stands for Wheel/Tire System, so you get a complete wheelset with tires and tubes, making it an even greater overall value.

The Aksium's 21mm profile, standard 15mm width aluminum rims are light, to minimize the rotational weight. Precisely machined braking tracks ensure excellent all conditions consistency. The surfaces are perfectly parallel and the rim has been hardened by Mavic's H2 process for strength and rigidity, especially at the spoke holes. The straight-pull steel spokes (20 front and rear) deliver excellent tension for good lateral stiffness and a pleasant ride quality. The lacing is radial in the front and on the drive side rear, while the non-drive side is 2x. The hub set rides smoothly on a steel axle and sealed QRM cartridge bearings, while the FTS-L steel freehub body drives the cassette.

The supplied 700x25 tires are a strong match to the wheels. The Elite Guard protection offers puncture resistance and the rubber provides excellent all conditions grip.
