The Cosmic Ultimate Wheelset was developed for racing at the highest levels of the sport. With a borderline ridiculous light weight, and aero performance that belies the road manners and handling quality, the Cosmic Ultimate was built for mountain assaults from the best climbers, and yet can be ridden for any road race. Such is the experience and genius of the wheel builders at Mavic.

The 100% woven 12K carbon fiber rims are exceptionally light, yet are laid-up for maximum results. Traditional spoke hole drilling is reinforced from the inside to keep the rim surface clean and slippery in the wind, yet plenty strong enough to carry the high tension loads required by the specially designed carbon spokes. The spokes are bladed, with 20 laced radially on the front wheel, and 20 laced 2x drive, radial non-drive on the rear. The front hub is carbon fiber, and employs Rim to Rim (RTR) spokes that pass over the high carbon flanges. The oversized aluminum axle provides excellent stiffness and rides on some of the top steel cartridge bearings in the industry, the QRM+. With this hubset, the bearing pre-load is micro-adjustable. On the rear hub, the non-drive carbon spokes have a special interface for truing, while the 2x drive side use the RTR system. Yhe FTS-L aluminum freehub body keeps things light, with consistent positive engagement.

The TgMax carbon brake surfaces are perfectly aligned and prepared for minimizing heat from braking. Mavic includes ther TgMax carbon-specific brake pads for optimal stopping power and best feel. This wheelset is shipped as a Mavic WTS, or Wheel Tire System. The Yksion Pro Tubulars are light at 230 grams each, and have a supple 210 tpi casing that carries a nylon protection breaker and single compound rubber. The tires are front and rear specific and designed for the primary roles the tires play in riding and handling. The GripLink is a front specific pattern that has been developed for low rolling resistance and excellent cornering grip. The PowerLink rear is designed to maximize power output and hold the aggressive line in corners. Both are 700x23 and rated at a max of 160 psi.
