Description

The Park Tool TNS-15 Threadless Nut Setter for 1¼ and 1½ steerer tubes is the sibling, a larger, heavier sibling, of the old standby TNS-1. Such a simple tool, but with a highly specific, and precise purpose: installing a star-fangled nut into an alloy steerer tube, straight and true, to a depth of 15mm, which allows secure headset top cap compression and fit.
Machined from a solid billet of steel stock, the TNS-15 has a replaceable threaded insert that the star nut threads onto. The handle section is plenty long so that the installer won't smack his or her hand with a hammer or pinch it between the steerer and tool when driving the star-fangled nut into place. The knurled surface area provides steady grip, even with greasy hands or tools. It is crucial to rider safety that the star nut be installed as straight and even as possible so that it will never slip or loosen. The bolt for the headset top cap must also thread cleanly into the receiving threads in the center of the nut.
The TNS-15 is a blunt instrument for a precision purpose. Use it safely, and try to to drop it onto your foot. It is quite heavy, as you would expect a sizable piece of solid steel to be. Return to Top
