Pearl Izumi's Select 3-layer Softshell material is ideal for a truly cost effective, semi-form fit, cool weather cycling jacket. Soft and flexible, with superior thermal warmth per weight, with wind and water blocking properties, Select serves up features that you normally find at twice the price. The Select Escape Softshell Jacket is perfect for cool weather rides in the forties and low 50's when precipitation is a reasonable expectation. At the very least a 2-season jacket for most of the US; in the moutnains of the Southeast and NorCal, you can rock it nearly year.

The main panels of the jacket employ the softshell, but selected panels use Pearl's highly breathable and warm Thermal fabric which has greater stretch and improves active fit, as well as thermal and moisture regulation. The designers limited the panels in favor of warmth and protection afforded by the softshell. This is a pointer that the Select Escape is best used for steady state rides, or commutes where huge physical efforts are not planned. This is perfect for general fitness rides deep into the Fall and through the late Spring when you simply desire time on the bike.

As mentioned, the fit is semi-form, so you can layer underneath easily, or fits well for riders with more shoulder and back musculature than a typical "racing cyclist". You get a high, soft collar, A full zip with internal draft flap. A small, handy chest pocket uses an "envelope" closure to keep items safe and accessible. A single, large, zippered back pocket stows plenty of gear and snacks, while the long jacket tail keeps road spray off your backside. You get plenty of reflective highlights to help keep you safe in low-light conditions.

Ho-hum, typical stand out Pearl Izumi performance and quality at a great price. While it isn't a shock, it is the true value of Pearl, with years of excellence and features in cycling clothing. Don't buy the Select Escape Softshell Jacket because it is a great value, but it because it a great jacket that serves you cool weather riding needs.
