The Ritchey WCS Trail 40 wheelset is a smart choice for riders seeking high octane performance in an affordable alloy rim package. As you'd expect from a WCS-level Ritchey wheel, all of the familiar wheel designs are present, like OCR rim profile, WCS Trail hubs and DT Swiss spokes. Solid design in both the rim and hub serves up a top-performing and complete wheelset that is reliable and easy to service. The wide 35mm internal width combined with a standard rim height give the Trail 40 a lot of range, to fit many different styles of bikes with different travel options.

The Trail 40 rim is 25mm tall and has an internal rim width of 35mm. This amount of volume really takes advantage of the newer bread of 2.4-3.0 inch tires that can be run at lower pressures for maximum performance. This size internal rim width generally fits best with frames that have 130-150mm of travel. The rims are constructed from aerospace grade alloy and have a professional burnished and anodized finish. This durable alloy material will have no problem with lower pressures and occasionally kissing rims on rough and pointy terrain. Tires mount and seal up with ease to the Trail 40 rim due to the smart channel design. The OCR (Off Center Rim) used in the rear wheel, features an asymmetrical design with a 5mm spoke offset and internal channel offset for balanced spoke tension. The long-proven OCR profile improves the spoke bracing angle and reduces wheel dish for a stronger build quality.

At the heart of the wheel is the WCS Trail Disc hubset. The pair of hubs have a star shaped flange to increase strength and reduce both lateral and brake flex. These unique flanges also make for easier building and wheel service. Oversize hubs are simple to disassemble and service, as well as convert to Shimano or XD Driver. Along with the oversize hub shells, Ritchey uses large and burly alloy axles for maximum stiffness and durability in a high-wear area.
