Description

The WCS ZeroMax saddle from Ritchey is the product of deep saddle knowledge and experience. Ritchey offers a wide variety of saddle platforms to suit the equally diverse population. The WCS ZeroMax is an intriguing model for several reasons, not the least of which is the understanding that a saddle that offers width and comfort does not have to be heavy or shaped like a pie wedge. From our perspective, wider saddles often miss the mark by offering a wide platform for the sit bones, but then gradually tapering towards the nose. As the legs move through the pedal stroke, the wide placement feels great until the the inner thigh slides on an outward angle down the side of the saddle to the bottom of the stroke. This does two things. First, it creates friction between the inner thigh and saddle, and second, it negatively impacts the alignment of the leg in the pedal stroke due to the change in the angle of the femur as it exits the pelvis . The ZeroMax design delivers excellent sit bone support but drastically tapers to a narrower center section and nose, allowing the femur, knee and axle to travel naturally through the pedal stroke, without alignment issues or saddle friction.
Ritchey's patented VectorWing seat rail mounting system is part of the reason this design is both possible, and truly functional. The VectorWing carries the rails further to the rear of the saddle, behind the normal sit bone placement, meaning no reinforcement is needed in that zone. The carbon-injected nylon shell is stiff and resilient, but offers just enough flex for comfort. This stiffness is especially important with the relief channel zone, where too much flex can be a negative. The profile of the ZeroMax is flat, with gently tapered edges, meaning your bone structure will be supported and lifted, but your legs will transition smoothly throughout the pedal stroke.
The top cover is durable, soft, perforated microfiber, and cushion is provided by a superlight, mid-density foam. The anatomically shaped relief channel is a moderate width, with no firm edges which protects soft tissue areas. The WCS ZeroMax is a terrific option for cyclist who require a 145mm width saddle platform. At 274 grams, you don't have to pay a penalty for comfort and fit. Ritchey may have put more thought and technology into this saddle than any other model. Think about how you like to supported; where you need relief; and how you want your leg to travel. Saddles can be challenging, but if you are still searching for the right 145mm wide saddle, we recommend the WCS ZeroMax.
