Description
The Record 13 disc brake caliper is what the Italian brand built to pair with its 13-speed wireless Ergopower levers, completing the hydraulic side of the flagship road ecosystem. It's a flat-mount, two-piston hydraulic caliper designed around 140mm rotors, but works with 160mm with an adapter. It's the workhorse caliper in the Record disc lineup — not the gram-counter Super Record version, but the same hydraulic architecture and the same modulation feel underneath.
The two-piston design uses Campagnolo's own pad compound and a magnetic pad retention system that makes pad swaps faster than cotter-pin setups. Pull the pads up and out, drop new ones in, done. The bleed port sits on top of the caliper body in a position that's easy to reach with the bike in a workstand, and Campagnolo specs mineral oil rather than DOT fluid — quieter on the hands and easier on paint if a fitting weeps.
Two SKUs cover the front and rear positions. The CL03-MDB140F is the front caliper and the CL03-MDB140 is the rear, and they're not interchangeable — the hose routing and bleed port orientation are position-specific. Order accordingly, or have the Excel mechanicos sort it for you when you bring the bike in. Both ship with pads installed and are set up natively for 140mm rotors. Running 160mm rotors is straightforward but requires a flat-mount adapter that is not included with the caliper — pick one up separately or have it added to your build sheet at the Excel Service Course....
