Description

Aluminum chainrings wear from chain contact, and when you start feeling rough shifts or seeing hook-shaped wear patterns on the teeth, you need a replacement. The Campagnolo Super Record 52-tooth outer chainring bolts to the four-arm spider on Super Record 12-speed cranksets using a 145mm bolt circle diameter. This BCD is specific to Super Record outer rings and won't interchange with Record cranksets, though both groups share the same 112mm bolt circle for inner rings. Eight bolts secure the system: four couple the outer ring to the crank arm, and four join the two chainrings together through the spider.

Campagnolo machines these rings from hardened aluminum alloy with a dark gray anodized finish that resists corrosion and extends wear life. The tooth profile incorporates X.P.S.S. technology, which uses mathematical simulation to optimize the angles where the chain climbs onto or releases from the ring. Contoured pins on the upshift zones guide the chain during front shifts, and drains machined into the inside of the ring move the chain efficiently during downshifts in dead spots. Lab testing showed this design delivers 25 percent faster shifting under load compared to previous generations.

The bolt set ships with the chainring for complete installation. Campagnolo pairs the 52-tooth outer ring with a 36-tooth inner ring for the standard racing combination. The Super Record chainring weighs four grams less than the Record version due to more aggressive material removal and refined machining. If you're running Super Record and your outer ring is worn, this is the direct replacement. The ring threads into the right crank arm where it mounts to the spider, working specifically with the 12-speed chain width and derailleur trajectory.
