Description
13 speeds sounds like a marketing gimmick until you actually ride it and realize where that extra cog lands in the progression. Campagnolo didn't add a 13th sprocket to chase headlines—they added it because the math works out to smoother cadence throughout the range. The Super Record 13 Cassette squeezes that additional gear into the same width as a 12-speed cassette, which means it mounts directly onto existing N3W freehub bodies without adapters or new wheel purchases. If you're already running Campagnolo wheels with N3W compatibility, this cassette drops right on.
The engineering that makes 13 speeds possible in a 12 speed width came directly from Campagnolo's work on the Ekar gravel groupset. They reduced both sprocket thickness and spacing by small but meaningful increments—we're talking fractions of a millimeter—to accommodate the extra gear without changing the freehub standard. The real-world benefit shows up in the middle of the cassette where most riders actually spend their time. Take the 10-29 option: the nine smallest sprockets progress in single-tooth increments from 10 through 18, giving you incredibly tight gearing right where cadence optimization matters most. That's the kind of progression you notice when you're trying to hold a specific power output or matching the pace of a group ride.
Construction follows Campagnolo's approach of machining the larger sprockets from a single block of steel rather than individual pieces. This monoblock construction reduces weight without resorting to titanium, which wears faster under chain load. The smaller sprockets are individually CNC-machined and assembled onto the carrier with precise tolerances. A Black Chrome finish covers the entire cassette, improving wear resistance while reducing noise during shifts. The finish also happens to look sharp, though that's secondary to its functional purpose of extending cassette life.... Read More
