Description
Wireless rear derailleurs position motors, batteries, and electronics within the mechanism body, which adds bulk that designers then have to work around when optimizing chain alignment. Campagnolo addressed this constraint with the Super Record 13 Rear Derailleur by repositioning the entire mechanism closer under the cassette, which keeps the pulleys in tighter alignment with the sprockets across the full 13-speed range. The geometry change contributes to the shift speed claims Campagnolo makes for this derailleur, which fires the chain from smallest to largest cog in 2.1 seconds and returns in 1.9 seconds. Those numbers matter less than how the shifts feel under load, and the optimized chain path keeps transitions smooth even when you're putting power down.
The pulley system uses two 14-tooth wheels with differentiated tooth profiles designed to accompany the chain through each pedaling phase. Campagnolo equipped the upper pulley with ceramic bearings to minimize friction where chain tension is highest, while the lower pulley prioritizes durability since it experiences less load but more exposure to road spray and debris. The cage accommodates cassettes starting from 10 or 11 teeth up to 36 teeth, which covers everything from flat criterium racing to extended climbing with the larger ratios. If you're building a Super Record 13 bike for mixed terrain, that 36-tooth ceiling gives you room to run climbing gears without sacrificing the tight spacing at the top end.
Campagnolo offers the derailleur in two mounting configurations. Frames with the Universal Derailleur Hanger standard get a direct mount option that eliminates the traditional link, reducing stack height and improving alignment consistency. Frames with traditional dropouts use a classic link that maintains compatibility with older designs. Both mounting systems position the derailleur identically once installed, so your frame design determines which version you need rather than affecting performance. The carbon housing and front section use a direct mold finish that keeps weight down while the aluminum components receive anodizing after laser engraving for visual detail that emerges from the production process rather than applied graphics....
