Description
The UT-CN300 chain tool handles installation and removal of Campagnolo 11-speed and 12-speed chains that use the pin connection system rather than master links. When you're connecting a chain with an HD-Link pin, this tool drives the pin through the chain plates and peens the end to create a permanent connection. The tool body uses hardened steel construction with heat treatment and polishing, which maintains alignment under the forces required to properly seat and peen the pin. Standard chain tools lack the precision needed for Campagnolo's flush pin design where the pin sits perfectly aligned with the outer plate surface.
The drive pin features a replaceable tapered tip that guides the HD-Link pin through the chain plates without damaging the inner bore. This tapered design is critical—if the tip becomes worn or damaged, it can score the chain plates or fail to properly peen the pin head. Campagnolo includes one spare tip pin with the tool and sells replacements separately as part number UT-CN301. You'll know it's time to replace the tip when you see scoring marks on the tip surface or if pins aren't seating flush with the outer plates after installation.
The tool body stabilizes the chain during pin installation by locking it into position, which prevents the chain from shifting while you're driving the pin. This locking mechanism matters when you're working with narrow 11-speed and 12-speed chains where even slight misalignment causes problems. The threaded drive mechanism uses rolled threads rather than cut threads, which handles repeated use without thread wear or stripping. Rubber handles on the tool extensions provide grip during installation and prevent your hands from slipping when applying force to seat the pin.... Read More
