Description

Campagnolo 12-speed and 13-speed chains require a specific tool for installation, and the UT-CN400 handles both pin removal for sizing and pin installation with the peening operation that secures the connection. Generic chain breakers won't work here because Campagnolo's Ultra-Link system uses a tapered pin design that needs precise alignment during installation. The tool's drive pin includes a replaceable tapered tip that matches the Ultra-Link pin geometry exactly, ensuring the pin seats correctly in the chain plates without damaging the narrow tolerances these drivetrains require.

The peening function matters because it's how the pin locks into place. After you drive the pin through the chain plates, the tool applies controlled pressure to flare the pin's tip slightly, which creates a mechanical interference that prevents the pin from backing out under load. This isn't optional, it's part of the installation specification that makes the connection permanent. Campagnolo provides a spare tapered tip pin with the tool since the tip experiences wear over repeated installations, and you can purchase replacement tips as part number UT-CN301 when the original wears down.

The tool works with both road 12-speed chains and Ekar 13-speed gravel chains. Campagnolo developed the UT-CN400 specifically for the Ekar system but engineered backward compatibility with their 12-speed road chains since both use the same Ultra-Link interface. The precision machining maintains tight tolerances throughout the tool's body, which translates to clean pin alignment when you're working with chains where the plates are separated by less than six millimeters. Rubber grip handles provide purchase when you're applying the force needed to drive pins home.... Read More
