Description

Geometry on the second-generation Cervelo Aspero strikes a balance between road-bike responsiveness and off-road stability. Head tube angles range from 71° to 72° depending on frame size, paired with consistent 62mm trail figures across the size run that keep the front-end handling predictable regardless of which frame you ride. The all-carbon tapered fork includes Cervelo's Trail Mixer flip-chip, which adjusts the fork offset to maintain handling characteristics whether you're running 700c wheels with 40mm tires or 650b wheels with higher-volume rubber. The frame accommodates 700x42mm or 650x49mm tire-and-wheel combinations with the clearance margin that ISO standards require, plus additional mud clearance that Cervelo engineered after watching riders struggle through the 2023 Unbound Gravel conditions.

Dropped seat stays, refined aerodynamics, and a threaded bottom bracket distinguish this generation from the original. The carbon frame shaves three watts of drag compared to its predecessor, but the aerodynamic gains translate more directly to energy conservation over long distances than outright speed. After hours in a headwind, those saved watts accumulate into measurable fatigue reduction. The dropped seat stay design contributes rear-end compliance that the original Aspero lacked, while slightly reduced front-end stiffness makes the final hours of a long event less punishing on the hands and arms.

Cervelo built the Aspero around their asymmetrical T47a threaded bottom bracket, the same rider-serviceable interface they developed for the R5-CX. This design eliminates the creaking and installation challenges associated with press-fit bottom brackets while maintaining the stiffness benefits of an oversized shell. The Universal Derailleur Hanger offers upgrade flexibility for riders who might transition to SRAM Transmission drivetrains down the road, and the internal cable routing shares bearing dimensions with the R5, Soloist, and Caledonia platforms for cockpit customization options using components from those bikes....
