Cervelo Aspero GRX RX820 Bicycle

Shimano's GRX RX820 mechanical group handles shifting, built around a 48/31T crankset and an HG710 11-36 cassette. That spread puts a 0.86 ratio at the low end for sustained climbing on loose grades and a 48x11 at the top for paceline work on pavement between dirt sectors. Shifting is cable-actuated, which keeps charging out of the pre-ride routine and makes roadside repair possible with basic tools. The frame accepts up to a 52T chainring at a 44.5mm chainline with a 2x setup, so there is room to change gearing if the stock range does not match the terrain you ride. An M8100 12-speed chain and an FSA T47 BBright bottom bracket for a 24mm spindle complete the drivetrain interface.

Braking runs through GRX RX820 hydraulic calipers on CL800 Center Lock rotors. Fulcrum Rapid Red 300 wheels carry 24mm internal rims laced 24H front and rear, with aero thru-axles at 12x100mm and 12x142mm and an HG freehub body matched to the Shimano cassette. The rims are tubeless-compatible, which matters here: the WTB Vulpine TCS Light tires in 700x40c use a fast-rolling Dual DNA compound on a 60tpi casing, and setting them up tubeless is the straightforward route to lower pressures without pinch-flat risk on rough surfaces. With 57mm between the stays, there is room to move up to a 45mm casing later without rethinking the frame.

The cockpit is house-brand throughout. An AB09 carbon handlebar with a 31.8mm clamp adds 16° of flare at the drops, widening the hand position for descending control without pushing the hoods out to an unaerodynamic width. The ST36 alloy stem routes housing internally through its own cable management, keeping the front end tidy without committing to a one-piece integrated bar that complicates fit changes. An SP19 carbon seatpost in 27.2mm handles flex duties at the back, topped with a Prologo Dimension NDR T4.0 saddle. A Smartpak top tube storage bag is included.

Service considerations favor the long term. The threaded T47 shell means bearing replacement happens with a wrench rather than a press, and the 27.2mm round seatpost can be swapped for an aftermarket post or a dropper without hunting for a proprietary shape. The UDH rear dropout leaves the frame open to SRAM Transmission drivetrains down the road, so a mechanical build today does not close the door on a direct-mount electronic group later. Two bottle mounts and integrated frame protection round out the package. This is a gravel race bike first — if your riding leans toward loaded bikepacking, the mount count and the 45mm ceiling will feel limiting, but for fast days on dirt roads the brief is clear.
