Description

Cutting a carbon steerer to length means you need something solid inside the tube to accept the headset preload bolt. Standard round steerers use a star-fangled nut that gets hammered into place, but the Caledonia-5 fork has a D-shaped steerer that won't accept conventional hardware. The Fork Insert Kit 359 provides the bonded insert that Cervelo designed specifically for this proprietary steerer profile, complete with everything you need to install it correctly.

The insert comes with a threaded receiver already installed—that's where your headset top cap bolt threads in to preload the bearings before you tighten the stem. Unlike a star-nut that grips the inside of the steerer mechanically, this insert gets epoxied in place. The bond is permanent and distributes preload force across a larger area than a star-nut's teeth would, which matters in a carbon tube where point loads can cause damage over time.

The kit includes the shaped insert, two-part epoxy, grit paper for surface prep, an alcohol wipe to clean the bonding surfaces, an application stick for the epoxy, and instructions that walk through the process. Surface preparation is critical—the grit paper scuffs the inside of the steerer and the outside of the insert so the epoxy has texture to grip. Skip that step and the bond won't hold under repeated preload adjustments.... Read More
