Description

Within the UCI's design boxes there isn't much frame left to optimize, so the gains on the current P5 come from what Cervélo opened up rather than what it carved away. The frame itself is about a watt faster than the outgoing version, and the rest arrives through clearance, with space in the fork and between the stays for wider rims and tires up to 34mm. Run the Reserve 77/88 wheelset with a 29mm Vittoria and that pairing accounts for roughly 4 watts more, so the P5 Force AXS as built sits about 5 watts ahead of the previous generation. Cervélo calls the platform a contre la montre catalyst, and it was part of Team Jumbo-Visma's Giro d'Italia and Tour de France wins in 2023.

Fit is where most of the practical change landed. The one-piece front end, first used on the S5, cuts part count and makes assembly and adjustment more straightforward, and it carries up to 40mm of stack adjustment. The basebar sits 10mm lower to shrink frontal area while total available stack went up, so a lower bar doesn't have to mean a position you can't hold for an Ironman bike leg. The riser handles extension tilt from 0 to 30 degrees in 5-degree steps. Armrests and pads are wider, taller, and thicker, which matters less for comfort than for control — more contact area means fewer corrections and more time spent in the position you paid for. A size 61 joins the range at the top.

Cervélo also addressed what a time trial does to your legs over the back half of a race. The fastback seat stay design drops vertical stiffness by about 22% while holding the lateral stiffness needed for power transfer, so more of the road stays under the tires instead of arriving at your hips. Storage is part of the package rather than an afterthought: the build ships with the P5 stem storage, Smartpak Top Tube Storage Bag 400, rear hydration mount, and an aero water bottle with cage. One thing to know before you commit — the front end is integrated and P5-specific. If you need to run your own basebar and extensions, the P-Series and its round stem interface is the platform built for that.... Read More
