Pauline Ferrand-Prévot won the Tour de France Femmes on this frame before it reached retail, which says most of what needs saying about where Cervelo aimed the latest R5. The Cervelo R5 Dura-Ace R9270 Di2 Bicycle builds that frameset into a complete machine with a claimed weight of 5.99 kgs in size 56, more than 800 grams under the 6.8kg minimum the UCI enforces in professional racing. The frame alone weighs 651 grams in size 56 and the fork weighs 298 grams, for a 949-gram frameset, and Cervelo accounts for a total of 396.5 grams removed from the complete bike against the previous generation. Those savings are spread across the whole build rather than concentrated in the carbon, and the positioning is unambiguous: this is the climbing and all-round race platform that runs alongside the aerodynamically driven S5, not a replacement for it.

The weight came out through shaping and hardware rather than a new material story. Frame surface area is down 6.2 percent and fork surface area down 2.6 percent, achieved through a slimmer downtube, a shallower head tube and a flatter top tube. The fork crown lost the chin that used to smooth the transition into the downtube, worth 8 to 14 grams on its own with no aerodynamic cost, and a machined routing slot at the back of the steerer replaces the old drilled hole for another 5 grams. The front brake now mounts on a pair of titanium thru-bolts fastened opposite the caliper rather than through an adaptor and the alloy slug most road forks mold into the fork leg. Individually those are small numbers. Added together, and alongside a claimed 13 percent gain in bottom bracket stiffness, they explain how a frameset that still has to absorb WorldTour sprint and descent loads arrives at 949 grams.

Geometry carries over in character but not in every detail. Fit coordinates now match the S5 at the request of Visma-Lease a Bike, which costs 5mm of stack, and bottom bracket drop sits 2mm lower at 74mm on the 56 because the frame is drawn around a 29mm tire rather than the 25mm tire the old one assumed. Trail holds at 57.3mm across all 6 sizes, from the 71° head tube angle on the 48 to 73° from the 54 upward, so steering response stays consistent regardless of which frame you ride. Clearance runs to 34mm, which leaves room for volume on rough pavement without turning the R5 into something it isn't — the position is low, the front center is short, and the bike is built to race.
