Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT TR Tubeless Tire
Description
When the clock is the only thing you're racing, tire choice comes down to watts. The Grand Prix 5000 TT TR is the lightest and fastest member of Continental's tubeless Grand Prix 5000 family, built specifically for time trials, triathlons, criteriums, and track racing. Continental took the all-around GP 5000 S TR, thinned the sidewalls, and trimmed the tread thickness to lower rolling resistance and shed weight.
The tread uses Continental's BlackChili compound, a blend of synthetic and natural rubber with specially developed carbon black particles and filler materials that balances grip against rolling speed. It's produced only in Germany, the same compound found across the Grand Prix range. What sets the TT TR apart is how little sits between you and the road: thinner sidewalls and reduced tread thickness are where the speed and weight savings come from, which is exactly the tradeoff you want when durability takes a back seat to pace on race day.
Puncture protection comes from a Vectran Breaker running beneath the tread. Vectran is a liquid crystal polymer yarn that's lighter and more flexible than nylon, more cut-resistant than aramid, and carries tensile strength far higher than steel, so the TT TR keeps a layer of defense without dragging down rolling resistance. This is a tubeless-ready casing, and it's hookless rim compatible, though pressure limits differ depending on your rim type.... Read More
