Description
Gravel racing has splintered into a dozen different camps arguing about tire width, and Continental just weighed in with a clear stance: sometimes fast is fast. The Terra Competition sits at the speed-focused end of their gravel lineup, built for riders who spend as much time on pavement as packed dirt and want a tire that excels at both. The tread pattern tells you everything about the intended use. An almost continuous center strip rolls quickly in a straight line, while V-shaped shoulder knobs engage only when you lean into turns or hit loose sections. Continental developed this tire with aerodynamics in mind, running wind tunnel testing to shape a profile that slips through the air more efficiently than their existing gravel options.
The numbers back up the design intent. Continental claims up to 17% lower rolling resistance compared to the Terra Speed, which was already their fastest gravel tire. The weight drops by up to 16% as well, putting the Race casing 35mm version at just 345 grams. That kind of weight savings adds up when you're racing for hours or just trying to maintain speed on mixed-surface routes. The tire uses Continental's 3x330 TPI construction with BlackChili compound, the same technology that makes their GP5000 road tires so quick.
You get two casing options depending on how you plan to use the tire. The Race casing pairs a supple single-ply construction with the Rapid compound for pure speed on hardpack and smooth gravel. If your routes include more challenging terrain or you want additional puncture protection, the Trail casing uses a more robust construction with the Grip compound for better traction and durability. Both versions mount tubeless, work with hookless rims, and carry the E25 rating for e-bike compatibility.... Read More
