The Eggbeater 2 from Crank Brothers uses cast stainless steel for the body, stamped steel wings, and a forged SCM 435 chromoly spindle - materials that handle the forces at engagement points without the cost of titanium or exotic alloys. The 300 series stainless steel springs manage retention force and resist corrosion over time.

The open-cage design lets you clip in from any of the four sides rather than hunting for pedal orientation. That architecture also sheds mud since there's no platform to trap debris - the wings rotate under pressure to engage the cleat, then return once loaded. The Enduro cartridge bearing runs outboard while an Igus LL-glide bearing handles inboard duties. That combination keeps the spindle rotating smoothly without the bearing costs of the higher-tier models.

Standard Release cleats ship with the pedals and provide 6 degrees of float with either 15 or 20 degrees of release angle depending on which pedal you mount to which side. The cleats recess flush with shoe treads for walking traction and mount to any 2-bolt mountain or gravel shoe.
