Description

One of the peloton's longest saddles is back in a modern build, and if you already know the flat, elongated Arione shape works for your body, this is the version that lands it on affordable alloy rails. The Vento Arione R5 from Fizik keeps the DNA that made the original a fixture under pro racers: a flat profile from nose to tail with a narrow nose, giving you the fore-to-aft room to slide around and settle into your power position. That shape has always suited flexible riders who stay planted and don't rock at the pelvis, and Fizik still sorts it into the Snake end of their Spine Concept fit system.

The R5 pairs a carbon-reinforced nylon shell with an S-Alloy rail, which is the aluminum rail spec that keeps the price accessible. If you're weighing this against the pricier Arione builds, the R5 is where you land when you want the shape and the cutout without stepping up to the hollow K:ium rail of the R3 or the carbon rail of the R1. The trade-off is a few grams and a bit of rail compliance, not shape or fit, so riders who already love the Arione form can get it here for less.

An ergonomic cutout runs through the center, developed using pressure analysis and input from medical experts to relieve pressure and support blood flow when you're riding deep in the drops. Under the cover sits Fizik's Type-1 foam, a low-profile, reactive formulation meant to stay springy and responsive rather than plush and bulky. That keeps the saddle firm and efficient for hard efforts, which is the point of a race-oriented platform like this one.... Read More
