Description
Swapping a freehub body sounds like it should be straightforward, and on the Tacx NEO 2T, it genuinely is. Garmin designed the freehub interface on their flagship smart trainer to be tool-free and user-swappable, which means switching between Shimano/SRAM and Campagnolo drivetrains takes about thirty seconds rather than a trip to the shop. The catch is knowing which body you actually need, because the NEO 2T ships configured for one drivetrain ecosystem and the replacement body gets you into the other. If you've upgraded your groupset or picked up a second bike with a different cassette standard, this is the part that bridges that gap without buying a second trainer.
The freehub body slides onto the trainer's drive unit and locks into place with a simple retention mechanism. No tools, no torque specs, no disassembly beyond pulling the old body off and pressing the new one on. Garmin manufactures these in the same facility as the trainer itself, so the engagement teeth and bearing surfaces match the tolerances of the original equipment. That matters because sloppy freehub engagement on a smart trainer translates directly into inconsistent power readings and an annoying rocking sensation during low-cadence efforts.
One detail worth noting: cassette compatibility follows the same rules as any freehub body. The Shimano/SRAM version accepts Shimano HG-spline cassettes from 8 through 12-speed SRAM and 11-speed Shimano, while the Campagnolo version fits their proprietary spline pattern. If you're running a Shimano 12-speed Micro Spline cassette or SRAM XDR, those require different freehub bodies entirely, so confirm your cassette interface before ordering.... Read More
