Description

Aero helmets have always demanded a compromise that nobody actually wants to make. Seal up the vents for speed and you overheat on any climb longer than ten minutes. Open them for cooling and you give back the watts you were chasing in the first place. Giro spent years refusing to accept that tradeoff, and the Eclipse Pro represents their answer: a helmet that tests 17 percent faster than the already-quick Eclipse Spherical while simultaneously improving ventilation and thermal management. The numbers came from Giro's in-house wind tunnel and CFD lab, where designers Ash Lewin and Garrett Tollette ran thousands of simulations before touching clay. The result has already collected more than twenty WorldTour victories, including general classification wins at the Vuelta a Espana and Tour de France Femmes, before most riders could even order one.

The silhouette departs noticeably from its predecessor, though the family resemblance remains clear. Two prominent vents along the front edges double as secure docking points for sunglasses, positioned where they stay stable at speed without blocking airflow or interfering with the structural arch. A narrower central opening feeds air across your forehead and over your brow, splitting the flow in a way that manages both cooling and aerodynamics simultaneously. Fifteen Wind Tunnel vents total work with deep internal channeling to create actual airflow paths rather than simple holes in foam. Cool air enters through the front intakes, travels across your scalp through structured channels, and exhausts through rear ports that flush heat away from your head. The system keeps working on long climbs where pure aero helmets turn into sweat lodges.

Weight lands at 280 grams for a medium in CPSC certification, which puts the Eclipse Pro lighter than many fully-vented climbing helmets from competing brands. The Aura II Reinforcing Arch runs through the helmet's structure, a shatter-resistant translucent element that maintains integrity while allowing the massive vents that make the cooling system work. You can actually see the arch through the shell, and it explains how Giro achieved both the aggressive ventilation and the structural stability that keeps the helmet feeling planted at speed....
