Description
A broken retention system doesn't have to mean a new helmet. The Roc Loc 5 Fit System from Giro is the genuine replacement part for 2011 and newer Giro road helmets that use the Roc Loc 5 design. If the plastic tabs have cracked, the dial has stopped holding tension, or the cradle has worn out, this gets your helmet back to working condition at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
The Roc Loc 5 marked a significant upgrade from Giro's earlier Roc Loc 4 system. A single rear thumb dial provides micro-adjustment for tension, replacing the older two-button system while also reducing weight. The soft rubber over-molded fit belt hugs the back of your head and prevents the helmet from shifting forward or backward during hard efforts. Importantly, the Roc Loc 5 provides adjustable tension that operates independently of the helmet straps, so you don't need to over-tighten the chin strap to achieve a secure fit.
Installation requires some patience. The side tabs snap into the helmet shell, while the rear fitting twists into a plastic insert already in the helmet. Some users find it helpful to warm the plastic slightly to ease installation. Once in place, the system offers multi-position adjustments within the helmet for dial placement on the back of your head. Note that Roc Loc systems are helmet-specific and cannot be retrofitted to helmets designed for different retention systems.
