Description

Mountain bike pedals tend to fall into two camps: race-oriented platforms that prioritize low stack height and power transfer, or trail pedals built for mud clearance and easy engagement. LOOK's X-One G Max splits the difference with a gravity-focused design that handles both technical descending and pedaling efficiency without forcing you to pick a lane. The oversized platform measures 65mm wide—noticeably larger than XC-oriented options—giving your foot a stable base when you're pushing through rock gardens or loading the bike into compressions.

The G Max uses LOOK's ATAC engagement system, which has been around long enough that most riders either love it or have never tried it. The automatic entry means you don't need to hunt for the engagement point—step down and the mechanism centers your cleat and locks in. Release is multi-directional rather than the heel-twist motion SPD requires, which some riders find more natural for emergency bailouts. The chromoly axle runs on sealed cartridge bearings, and the whole pedal sits at a 17mm stack height that keeps your foot reasonably close to the spindle.

Body construction uses a composite cage with replaceable aluminum pins for traction on the platform surface. Those pins thread in from the bottom, so you can swap them when they wear down or dial in your preferred grip level. The open design around the engagement mechanism helps clear mud and debris—useful if your local trails turn to peanut butter after rain.... Read More
