Nutrition > Hydration Drink Mix

Description

Carbohydrate targets have climbed faster than packaging has kept up with them. Getting 120 grams into a single hour using 25-gram gels means five sachets, five wrappers, and five separate decisions made while you're moving. Maurten's Gel Mix 480 collapses that into one powder sachet: mix it with 200 ml of water and you have 120 grams of carbohydrate and 480 calories, which is where the number in the name comes from. The consistency sits deliberately between the company's two existing formats, thicker than Drink Mix and looser than the Gel. It is a flask fuel first and foremost, which is a different category of thing than either product it sits between.

The mechanism underneath is the same one running through the rest of the range. Gel Mix 480 is pH-sensitive, behaving like a liquid in the flask and becoming a true gel in the acidity of the stomach, a change that encapsulates the carbohydrates and carries them through to be absorbed. The ingredient list stays short: maltodextrin, fructose, xanthan gum, sodium alginate, pectin, and sodium bicarbonate. There are no added flavors, preservatives, or artificial colors. It carries Informed Sport certification.

This is not a tear-and-swallow format, and that distinction matters before you order. Preparation runs as follows: pour 200 ml of water into a Gel Mix Flask, add one sachet, seal, shake until fully dissolved, and let it rest 5 minutes before drinking. You want no lumps and no residual mix sitting at the bottom of the flask. The system is built around the Gel Mix Flask 350 ml, sold separately, which uses a SpeedFill cap for fast refills and a bite valve so you can drink without unscrewing anything over rough terrain. Water temperature and mixing thoroughness will shift the texture slightly, so the shake is not a formality. ... Read More
