Description

Maurten built the 160 line around a single number. Gel 160, Drink Mix 160, and the Solid C 160 bar all carry 40g of carbohydrates per serving, so the format can change mid-ride without the math changing with it. The C stands for cocoa, which functions as a flavor reset partway through a long day , layering mild chocolate onto the same oat- and rice-based chewable as the standard Solid 160 — nutritional content is the same for both bars . This is the 12-serving box, which is where most riders land once the bar has a fixed place in the fueling plan.

The bar is pre-cut in the middle, splitting into 2 equal parts with 20g of carbohydrates in each , both halves living inside one wrapper. That came from athletes asking for a simpler way to calculate carbohydrate intake , and it changes how the bar fits a plan: eat the whole thing for a 40g block, or take half now and save the rest for the next climb. Half a bar plus a Gel 100 puts you at 45g without doing arithmetic on the bike. It also means a bar you open at hour 3 doesn't have to be finished at hour 3.

Maurten points Solid at three windows — preloading carbohydrates before training or racing, during low-to-medium intensity endurance sessions over 2+ hours, and after hard training or competition to help replenish carbohydrate stores . The intensity qualifier matters. Chewing and swallowing a solid at threshold is a different proposition than tipping back a gel, so most riders reserve the bar for tempo and endurance blocks, group ride lulls, and flat transitional stretches where breathing rate allows for actual chewing. On the drive home from a session, it's a snack with a known carbohydrate number attached.... Read More
