Panaracer GravelKing SK Tubeless Tire

For several years running, the GravelKing SK was the best-selling tire in Panaracer's gravel range, and it's the model that started the whole conversation about what a gravel tire should be. This is the standard SK — not the R version, not the SK+ — and it sits in the middle of the lineup as the semi-knob option. The tread uses small, closely spaced center knobs that keep rolling resistance down on hardpack and pavement, while taller side knobs step in once the bike leans over into soft or loose terrain. If you ride a mix of dirt, hardpack, and rough pavement and don't want to give up rolling speed for traction you rarely use, this is the pattern that splits the difference. It slots between the near-slick SS and the full-knob X1. Knob spacing matters here too — open enough to shed mud and small stones rather than pack them in, which keeps the edges doing their job on the back half of a wet ride.

The ZSG Gravel compound is built from Panaracer's Zero Slip Grip material, formulated specifically for gravel terrain so the rubber behaves the same way from freezing cold to sweltering heat. Temperature stability is the practical benefit — grip stays predictable whether you're clipping in for a cold dawn start or finishing that same ride in afternoon heat, and the compound is tuned to hold rolling resistance down while it does it. Underneath, the casing uses TuffTex, a high thread count weave developed for the GravelKing line. The result is a supple carcass that conforms to the ground instead of skipping across it, which is most of what you feel in the first mile off pavement.

Tubeless setup is worth a close look on this version. The BeadLock bead profile is designed to work with a wide array of rim types, covering both hookless and clincher varieties, and in most instances mounting can be achieved with a standard floor pump. That matters if you've ever fought a stubborn gravel tire onto a hookless rim with a compressor and a bad attitude. Seating is only half of it, though. A bead that locks into the rim shelf cleanly also reduces burping when you're leaning hard at low pressure, which is the failure mode that pushes riders into running more air than they actually need.
