Description
Machine-threaded storage hooks solve a different installation problem than wood-screw hooks. If you're mounting into metal racking, slotted angle iron, a trailer wall, or through a pre-drilled hole where you need nuts on both sides, that's where the Park Tool 450 Storage Hook fits in. The M8 x 1.25 machine thread gives you 44mm (1.75") of threaded rod, and the 2 included nuts let you set the hook depth from one side and lock it down from the other.
The 450 is the original and smallest hook in Park Tool's storage lineup, with a J-bend opening that measures about 55mm inside width. That accommodates road, cyclocross, hybrid, and mountain bike tires up to roughly 2.0" wide. If you're running anything wider than that, Park Tool makes the 470 and 470XX in larger sizes for plus-size and fat bike tires. The hook itself is formed from 7mm steel rod, plated, and then vinyl-dipped over the J-bend to protect your rim finish from scratches. The threaded section is left uncoated so the nuts thread on cleanly.
One thing to note: this is not a wood-screw hook. You can't just twist it into a ceiling joist or wall stud. The machine thread requires a through-hole where you can access both sides to install the nuts. That's why these are the go-to choice for shop racking systems, metal shelving, and trailer builds where you're bolting through a flat surface. Park Tool rates the 450 at 52 kg (115 lbs), provided it's securely installed into material that can handle that load. Sold individually, so plan your quantities based on how many bikes and spare wheels you need off the floor.
