Investment cast steel is the material that separates a bottom bracket tool you use once and throw in a drawer from one you reach for hundreds of times. Park Tool's BBT-22 is built from it, and the flat tooth profile on its 20 splines is what keeps the tool seated in the cup under load instead of skipping out and rounding the interface. If you've ever had a cheap BB tool pop loose mid-turn and chew up the spline fitting, you already know why that matters.

The BBT-22 fits bottom bracket cups with 20 splines and a 32mm diameter, which covers a wide range of cartridge bottom brackets from Shimano, Truvativ, Race Face, FSA, and other brands using that same interface. It also clears the oversized spindles on ISIS Drive and Octalink cranksets, so you don't need to pull the crank before removing the cup on those systems. Beyond cartridge BBs, the tool fits some crankset lockrings as well, including certain Race Face models. If you had the older BBT-2, this is the direct replacement and services the same bottom brackets.

You have options for driving the BBT-22. It features a 3/8" drive fitting on the back, which is the interface you want for a torque wrench during installation — bottom bracket cups have specific torque specs, and guessing isn't a good strategy there. It also has 1" wrench flats, so a 1" open-end wrench or adjustable wrench works if you're doing a quick removal and don't need precise torque control. A 32mm wrench fits the flats as well. One thing to note: Park Tool specifies that this tool is not designed for use with impact drivers or other power tools, so keep it to hand tools only.
