Description
Bottom bracket tools have a design problem: the cup you're trying to remove wants to push the tool out of engagement. You're applying torque, and the tool is climbing out of the splines, especially on stubborn cups that haven't moved in years. The Park Tool BBT-RS solves this with a simple retention system that holds the tool in place mechanically, so you can focus on breaking the cup loose instead of fighting to keep the tool seated.
The system uses a long through-axle that passes through your bottom bracket shell and threads into the tool on the opposite side. Once tightened, the tool can't back out—it's physically held against the cup while you apply torque. This matters most on external bearing bottom brackets where the interface between tool and cup has relatively shallow engagement. Without retention, those tools want to skip out right when you're putting maximum force on the wrench.
Compatibility covers most of Park Tool's external bottom bracket tools, including the BBT-59 series for Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo, and other external bearing systems. The through-axle design means your frame's bottom bracket shell needs to be clear—if you're running an internal bearing setup or the shell is otherwise occupied, this won't work. But for standard threaded shells with external cups, it's the difference between a controlled removal and a tool that pops off and rounds the cup's interface.... Read More
