Description

Chain wear isn't something you notice until it's too late. A stretched chain accelerates cassette and chainring wear, turning a fifteen-dollar replacement into a hundred-dollar drivetrain overhaul. The Park Tool CC-2 Chain Checker gives you a quick, definitive measurement so you can catch wear before it cascades into bigger problems.

The tool works by measuring the distance between chain pins. As chains wear, the internal components elongate, increasing the effective pitch between rollers. The CC-2 has two gauges built into one tool: a 0.5% wear indicator and a 1.0% wear indicator. You insert the hooked end into the chain, then pivot the gauge down. If the 0.5% side drops fully into the chain, you're approaching replacement territory. If the 1.0% side drops in, the chain has exceeded its service life and is actively damaging your cassette and chainrings with every pedal stroke.

Most mechanics recommend replacing chains at the 0.5% mark for 10-speed and narrower drivetrains, and some even suggest earlier replacement for 11-speed and 12-speed systems where tolerances are tighter. The CC-2 doesn't require batteries, calibration, or any setup. It's a stamped steel gauge that lives in your toolbox and takes three seconds to use. That simplicity means you'll actually check your chain regularly instead of letting the tool collect dust.... Read More
