Description

Chain lube arguments never end, but the basic job remains the same: reduce friction between roller and pin while the chain articulates, and don't wash away the moment conditions turn wet. Park Tool's CL-1.2 takes a synthetic base oil and adds PTFE particles that settle into the contact surfaces between chain components. The formula goes on wet for penetration, then sets up to a drier film that resists flinging onto your rim or chainstay.

The 4-ounce bottle uses a needle applicator tip that lets you place lube precisely on each roller without drowning the chain in excess. This matters because overlubricating attracts grit that accelerates wear—you want enough to coat the internals, not so much that your drivetrain becomes a grinding paste factory. Apply to a clean chain, let it penetrate for a few minutes, then wipe the exterior. The PTFE stays where it belongs, inside the rollers, while the carrier evaporates.

CL-1.2 positions itself as an all-conditions lubricant, which means it won't excel in extreme wet or extreme dry the way specialized formulas might, but it handles the full range of normal riding without forcing you to stock multiple bottles. For a shop or home mechanic who works on different bikes in different conditions, that versatility has real value. One bottle covers road bikes, mountain bikes, commuters, and everything in between.... Read More
