Description
Tight spaces exist on every bicycle. Bottle cage bolts recessed into the frame. Derailleur limit screws tucked behind the cage. Brake caliper mounting bolts positioned where a standard L-wrench won't fit. Park Tool's HXS-3 Stubby Hex Wrench Set addresses these access problems with shortened handles that clear obstacles while still providing enough leverage to properly tighten fasteners.
The set includes eight sizes covering the hex bolt spectrum you'll encounter on modern bicycles: 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8mm. Each wrench uses a ball-end design on the long arm that allows up to 25 degrees of entry angle, so you can reach bolts that aren't perfectly perpendicular to your wrench approach. The shortened handles measure roughly half the length of standard hex wrenches, which trades some leverage for the ability to actually reach the bolt in the first place.
The wrenches themselves are heat-treated Bondhus Protanium steel, which matters when you're applying real torque to stuck fasteners. Cheap hex wrenches round off or twist under load, leaving you with a damaged tool and a bolt that's now harder to remove. The chamfered ends help with initial bolt engagement, reducing the fumbling when you're working blind or in awkward positions.... Read More
