Description
Most multi-tools cram everything into a folding Swiss Army layout where half the tools fight each other for clearance, and the thing you actually need is always the one buried in the middle. Park Tool's IB-3C I-Beam Multi-Tool takes a different approach. The tools bolt to either side of a central anodized aluminum beam, so whatever you're not using becomes the handle. That structural beam gives you actual leverage when you need to torque a bolt, and each tool swings out independently without interfering with the others.
The IB-3C packs 15 functions into a package that measures 90 x 40 x 25mm when folded. You get 8 hex wrenches covering 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8mm, a T25 Torx-compatible driver, and a flat blade screwdriver. That covers basically every fastener you'll encounter on a modern bike, from stem bolts and disc rotor bolts to derailleur limit screws and cleat hardware. The 8mm hex is a sleeve that slides over the 6mm wrench, so keep that in mind when you're packing the tool away. The hardened steel tools feature chamfered edges on the hex keys, which helps with bolt engagement and reduces the chance of rounding out fastener heads when you're working at awkward angles on the side of the road.
The chain tool handles 5- to 12-speed chains, and Park Tool confirms compatibility with SRAM 12-speed Flattop and T-Type chains. It will install and remove Campagnolo 11, 12, and 13-speed chain rivets, but it cannot peen them, so you'll still need a dedicated chain tool like the CT-4.3 or CT-6.3 for Campy chain service. A composite-wrapped steel tire lever clips onto the I-Beam body for storage and pulls double duty with integrated spoke wrenches in 3.23mm (SW-0) and 3.45mm (SW-2) sizes, plus an 8mm box wrench that serves as the drive handle for the chain tool pin. The tools are fastened to the beam with stainless steel bolts and nyloc-type locking nuts, so the individual pieces stay put in your saddlebag or jersey pocket instead of working loose over time.
