Description
There's a reason these are the hex wrenches hanging on the pegboard in just about every bike shop you've walked into. Park Tool's PH P-Handled Hex Wrench uses Bondhus Protanium high-torque industrial steel that's through-hardened for long service life — the same steel and hardening process across all 8 metric sizes in the PH lineup (2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm). The P-handle shape gives you an ergonomic grip that standard L-keys can't match, and the offset design lets you apply real torque without the wrist fatigue that comes from spinning a straight allen key for an entire shift's worth of service work.
Each PH wrench has 2 working ends. The short end extends straight out of the handle with a chamfered hex tip — that's your high-torque side for final tightening or breaking loose stubborn bolts. The long end carries a Bondhus ball-driver tip that lets you engage hex fittings at an angle, which is how you reach bolts that sit behind brake calipers, inside bottle cage recesses, or underneath saddle rails where a straight approach isn't physically possible. The ball end won't handle the same torque as the chamfered side, but that's by design — you run the bolt in at an angle with the ball end, then flip to the short side for the final snug.
The nylon handle is molded with an ergonomic offset shape, and the shaft lengths are deliberately kept proportional to each wrench size to reduce the flex and wind-up you get with longer hex keys. That matters when you're trying to feel a torque value by hand or when you need to finesse a bolt without overshooting. If you already own the PH-1.2 set and need a replacement for a worn or lost individual size, these are the same wrenches sold separately.
