Description

Flathead screwdrivers don't get much thought until you're stripping out a limit screw with whatever's closest to hand. The Park Tool SD series exists because bike-specific fasteners deserve bike-specific tools, and the screwdrivers you've got rattling around in a kitchen drawer weren't designed for the precise work that derailleur adjustments and accessory mounting require. These flathead drivers come in two sizes to match the slot widths you'll actually encounter on bicycles, with hardened steel blades that resist the rounding and chipping that plague bargain-bin alternatives.

The SD-3 handles smaller fasteners with its 3mm wide blade tip, sized for accessory mounting screws and older components where Phillips heads weren't standard. The SD-6 steps up to a 6mm blade width for larger limit screws and adjustment fasteners found on derailleurs and brake calipers. Both feature acetate handles with a flared design that provides grip and prevents the tool from rolling off your workbench. The handle shape also gives you leverage for stubborn fasteners without requiring a death grip that leads to slipped blades and gouged knuckles.

Blade hardness matters more than most people realize. Soft steel deforms under load, and a deformed blade tip means poor engagement with the fastener slot. That poor engagement means cam-out, which means damaged screw heads and frustrated mechanics. Park Tool hardens these blades to resist deformation, so the blade profile stays true through years of use. The steel also extends well into the handle for durability—these aren't pressed-fit blades that work loose over time.... Read More
