Description
Most chain checkers use a two-point measurement that pushes the chain rollers in opposite directions, which means roller wear gets factored into your reading. The result is a false positive that tells you to replace a chain with plenty of miles left. The Pedro's Chain Checker Plus II uses a three-point design that pushes both rollers in the same direction, isolating true pin-to-pin distance and giving you an accurate measure of actual chain elongation rather than a combined reading that conflates two different types of wear.
Chain elongation happens exclusively at the pins and inner link mating holes, not at the rollers. When you measure wear with a two-point tool, roller play gets added to your reading even though it contributes nothing to actual chain stretch. The three-point system neutralizes roller play during measurement rather than adding it to your result. You get two wear indicators on this tool: 0.5% for modern 10-speed and higher drivetrains where tighter tolerances demand earlier replacement, and 0.75% for chains running on systems that can tolerate additional wear before cassette and chainring degradation becomes a concern.
The Chain Checker Plus II packs three functions into one precision laser-cut tool. Beyond the wear gauge, you get a pair of chain hooks that hold links apart during installation or removal, making quick link work significantly easier when you need a third hand. The integrated chainring nut wrench handles slotted-style chainring bolts when you need to swap rings or adjust spider-mounted chainrings during service. SRAM has approved this tool for use on their Eagle 12-speed and Flattop chains, confirming compatibility with the narrower tolerances of modern high-speed drivetrains where accurate wear measurement matters most....
