Description

Aerodynamic wheel design has evolved past the point where depth alone determines performance—the shape of the rim, the way spokes interact with airflow, and how the tire integrates with the leading edge all contribute to the speed equation. Reserve developed their Turbulent Aero methodology by collecting real-world wind data from popular riding routes across North America and Europe, then replicating those conditions in testing rather than relying on the laminar airflow that conventional wind tunnels produce. The result is rim profiles optimized for the unpredictable crosswinds riders actually encounter, not the controlled conditions that look good on paper but don't reflect how air behaves on the road.

The depth split between front and rear reflects practical aerodynamics rather than aesthetic preference. The 42mm front rim reduces the steering input required to correct for crosswinds while the 49mm rear takes advantage of its position behind the rider's body where it can contribute aerodynamic efficiency without compromising handling. The front rim uses a 25.4mm internal width while the rear measures 24.8mm, both optimized for 29-40mm tire widths and creating the smooth transition from tire to rim that modern aero theory demands. Reserve's semi-hooked bead design accommodates both tubeless and traditional clincher setups, giving you flexibility in tire choice rather than locking you into tubeless-only options.

DT Swiss 180 Dicut hubs anchor this build with their 36-tooth ratchet engagement system, providing responsive power transfer when you accelerate out of corners or respond to pace changes. The Dicut designation indicates DT Swiss's weight-optimized hub internals with ceramic bearings that reduce friction at the axle. Reserve laces the build with 24 standard straight-pull spokes and external nipples—a deliberate choice that prioritizes serviceability over proprietary components, meaning any competent wheelbuilder can true or repair these wheels without specialized tools....
