The rim pairs a 30mm internal width with a 44mm external profile, and depths are staggered at 48mm front and 53mm rear. The shallower front rim is there to keep handling predictable when crosswinds pick up, while the taller rear adds aerodynamic efficiency in a position where rim depth has little influence on steering. The width story matters as much as the depth. The 30mm internal width is set up for tires in the 40 to 57mm range, producing a wider tire profile and a larger contact patch. Reserve's reasoning is that a wider bed lets the tire sit wider on the rim for more grip, and prevents lightbulbing, where sidewalls taper in narrower than the widest point of the tire and shrink the contact patch. The external width does the aerodynamic work, helping air transition more cleanly from the tire onto the rim to reduce drag. On a gravel bike, the tire is the widest thing up front, so a rim that finally catches up to it is doing something useful rather than just looking wide.

Construction is where this rim differs from previous Reserve gravel offerings. The Hollow Hook design is what allows the 30mm internal and 44mm external dimensions without a large weight increase, removing material from the rim edges while retaining pinch-flat protection and rim strength.
