Ritchey sews a piece of genuine leather around a thin composite core. The aluminum locking collars are mated to the core and when you fasten the collars down, your grips won't twist, spin, or slide. Natural leather actually supplies excellent grip in wet or dry conditions, but if you wear gloves, make sure you check the feel and grip level before setting out. Some palm surfaces don't play well with leather.
