Comp 4-Axis-44 Stem
Description
Ritchey's 4-Axis stem earned its reputation on the strength of a faceplate design that spread clamping force across four bolts long before that layout became the industry standard. The Comp 4-Axis-44 carries that heritage into an aluminum stem aimed at riders who want proven bar-holding geometry without paying WCS-tier pricing. The 44mm-wide faceplate widens the bolt stance compared to the previous generation, which spreads clamping load across a larger contact patch and reduces the pinch-point stress that can crush lightweight carbon bars.
The body is 3D net-forged from 6061 aluminum, a process that shapes the material grain to follow the stem's contours rather than cutting through it. That structural continuity is where the strength-to-weight comes from — 128 grams in the 100mm length puts it in range of stems costing considerably more. Stainless steel hardware handles the four faceplate bolts and the two steerer pinch bolts, and the bias-cut steerer clamp is designed to distribute load evenly around lightweight steerer tubes.
Geometry is a ±6° rise, which Ritchey lists as an 84°/6° angle depending on which way you flip it. That moderate rise keeps the stem versatile across road, endurance, and gravel builds, and the 31.8mm bar clamp works with the vast majority of drop bars and flat bars on the market. It's designed for a 1-1/8" steerer with a 42mm clamp height, so it drops into essentially any modern threadless fork.... Read More
