Description

Platform pedals get dismissed as beginner equipment, but flat pedal riding demands its own skill set and offers advantages that clipless systems can't match—instant foot placement adjustments, the ability to dab through technical sections, and zero consequences when you need to bail. The Ritchey Comp Bigfoot Pedal takes the platform approach seriously with a 105mm x 105mm body that provides genuine real estate for your feet, using a concave profile and twelve replaceable pins per side to lock shoes in place without mechanical attachment. The Comp-level construction uses a nylon composite body over chromoly axles with sealed bearings, prioritizing durability and serviceability over the weight savings of more exotic materials.

The Bigfoot designation reflects the pedal's oversized platform relative to most flat pedals on the market. That extra surface area distributes pressure across more of your shoe sole, reducing hot spots on longer rides and giving you more options for foot positioning when terrain gets rough. The concave shape naturally cups your foot toward the center of the pedal, working with the adjustable pins to resist the lateral forces that want to throw your feet off during aggressive descents or punchy climbs out of the saddle.

Twelve pins per side might sound modest compared to some gravity-focused platforms, but the arrangement covers the usable surface effectively without creating a bed of nails that makes repositioning difficult. The pins thread into brass inserts molded into the nylon body, so you can replace bent or worn pins individually rather than retiring the entire pedal. This matters more than you'd think—pins take abuse every time you set a foot down or scrape over rocks, and replaceable hardware extends the pedal's service life significantly.... Read More
