Description
Threadless headsets don't get much attention until they develop play or start binding during cornering, at which point you realize how much the bearing quality affects steering feel. The Ritchey Comp Logic Threadless Headset uses cartridge bearings pressed into aluminum cups, creating a sealed interface that resists contamination from road spray and sweat dripping down the steerer tube. This construction puts the bearing surfaces where they need to be without relying on loose balls that can pit or corrode when maintenance intervals slip.
The 1-1/8" straight steerer compatibility covers the vast majority of road, gravel, and cross bikes using threadless systems, and the external cup design means installation doesn't require specialized tools beyond a headset press. Ritchey machines the cups from aluminum to reduce weight compared to steel alternatives while maintaining the dimensional stability needed for consistent preload. The black anodized finish resists corrosion and matches most frameset aesthetics without drawing attention to the headset area.
Sealed cartridge bearings handle the contamination issue that plagues traditional loose-ball headsets, particularly on bikes that see rain or frequent washing. The seals keep water and grit away from the bearing races, which extends service life and maintains the smooth steering action that fresh bearings provide. When the bearings eventually need replacement, the cartridge design allows you to press out the old units and install new ones without replacing the entire headset assembly.... Read More
