Description
Side-loading bottle cages solve a specific problem that top-loaders can't address—frame geometry that places the cage too close to another tube, a dropper post lever, or a frame bag that blocks vertical access. The Ritchey Comp Side Entry cage opens to the right side, allowing bottle insertion and removal with a horizontal motion rather than the upward pull that standard cages require. This makes it the practical choice for compact frames, full-suspension bikes with tight rear triangles, or any setup where your hand can't approach the bottle from directly above.
The cage uses Ritchey's Comp-grade construction with a glass-reinforced nylon composite body that grips bottles securely without the rattle that cheaper side-loaders sometimes produce. The composite material flexes enough to release bottles smoothly but maintains enough tension to keep them seated over rough terrain. At 36 grams, it's lighter than most aluminum alternatives while offering more vibration damping—a characteristic that becomes noticeable when you're grabbing for hydration on chunky descents or washboard gravel.
Mounting uses standard 64mm bottle cage bolt spacing, which means it works with any frame that accepts conventional cages. The right-side-only loading direction is worth noting during installation—you'll want to position it so the open side faces away from obstructions rather than toward them. For frames where the right side is blocked, you'd need to look at left-loading alternatives or adjustable-direction designs.... Read More
