Description
Carbon forks transformed road bike performance when they replaced steel and aluminum alternatives, but the material choice only matters if the layup delivers the right balance of vertical compliance and lateral stiffness. The Ritchey Comp UD Carbon Road Fork uses unidirectional carbon fiber construction throughout the steerer, crown, and blades—a continuous layup that eliminates the weight penalty and flex characteristics of alloy steerer tubes bonded to carbon legs. This fork targets riders upgrading steel or aluminum frames who want the vibration damping benefits of carbon without the cost of boutique aftermarket options.
The 1-1/8-inch alloy steerer measures 300mm uncut, providing sufficient length for most road frame configurations while keeping material where it handles the highest steering loads. Ritchey specs the steerer in aluminum rather than carbon, which simplifies stem clamping considerations—you can use any standard stem without worrying about carbon-specific torque limits or compression plugs rated for carbon steerers. The tapered blade profile transitions from a wider crown junction down to standard dropout width, creating the triangulated structure that resists braking and cornering forces.
Brake mounting uses a recessed center-pull design with a 47-57mm reach specification, compatible with the short-reach calipers found on most modern road groupsets. The fork accommodates tires up to approximately 28mm depending on your frame's chainstay clearance, covering the range from race rubber to light endurance casing. Dropout spacing sits at the standard 100mm quick-release width with forward-facing lawyer tabs.... Read More
