Description
Flared drop bars solve a specific problem that traditional road bends create when you're riding unpaved surfaces—your hands want to be wider in the drops for stability, but conventional bars force you into the same narrow position whether you're descending tarmac or picking through loose gravel. The Ritchey Comp VentureMax V2 addresses this with a 24-degree flare that pushes the drops outward, giving you a more planted stance when terrain gets rough without affecting your grip position on the hoods. It's a geometry choice that's become standard in gravel racing precisely because it works.
The bar uses Ritchey's Comp-grade 6061 aluminum with double-butted wall construction, which keeps weight reasonable while providing the stiffness needed for precise handling inputs. A 12-degree sweep in the drops gives your wrists a more natural angle during extended time in the lower position, reducing the strain that straight drops can cause on longer gravel events. The combination of flare and sweep means your hands find comfortable angles whether you're soft-pedaling on the hoods or committed to the drops on a fast descent.
Ritchey designed the VentureMax V2 with a compact 70mm reach and 115mm drop, which puts the control levers closer and the drops within easier reach than traditional road dimensions. This matters for gravel riding where you're constantly moving between hand positions as terrain changes. The shorter reach also helps riders who've struggled to get comfortable on bars designed around road racing geometries.... Read More
