Description

Stem length and rise angle determine where your hands end up relative to the steerer tube, which affects weight distribution, steering response, and how your spine aligns on climbs versus descents. The Ritchey Trail Stem uses a four-bolt faceplate design with a 31.8mm clamp diameter, positioning the handlebar through a forged aluminum construction that keeps weight reasonable while handling the torque loads that trail riding generates. The 84-degree angle provides a moderate rise that works well for riders who want their bars slightly elevated without committing to an aggressive high-rise stem.

Forged aluminum construction gives this stem better fatigue resistance than cast alternatives—the grain structure created during the forging process aligns with the load paths, which matters when you're yanking on bars through rock gardens or absorbing repeated impacts on rough descents. The 31.8mm bar clamp has become the standard diameter for mountain bars, so compatibility won't be an issue with modern handlebars. Ritchey machines the steerer clamp to work with 1-1/8-inch steerer tubes, which covers the vast majority of mountain forks currently in production.

The stem ships with stainless steel hardware that resists corrosion better than standard fasteners—a practical detail for riders who encounter wet conditions regularly. Ritchey includes their logo machined into the faceplate rather than using decals that peel after a season of abuse. If you're replacing an OEM stem to dial in cockpit fit, or swapping stems between bikes to compare positions, this is the kind of component that handles the job without drama.... Read More
