Description
Getting the front end dialed often comes down to swapping a stem, and the WCS C220 73D from Ritchey gives you a stiff aluminum option that clamps the bar in a way most stems don't. The C220 handlebar clamp design creates a more secure interface by wrapping a full 220° over the handlebar, with bolt forces aligned so the stem body embraces the bar rather than pinching it, which is easier on lightweight carbon handlebars. The four forward-facing faceplate bolts also make installation and bar swaps quicker than a traditional four-bolt layout — no fighting with hardware buried behind the bar.
The 73-degree angle gives you 17° of positive or negative rise , so you can run it slammed for a lower position or flip it up to add stack without buying a second stem. That flexibility matters if you're still sorting out fit or you rotate between bikes with different geometry. The body is forged from 2014 aluminum for weight reduction, and stainless steel black bolts are used throughout , which keeps corrosion in check on bikes that see wet weather or salted winter roads.
Ritchey lists a maximum torque of 5Nm on all hardware, so a torque wrench isn't optional here — especially if you're pairing this with carbon bars. Compatibility is straightforward: 31.8mm bar clamp and a 1-1/8" steerer, which covers the vast majority of modern road and gravel forks. The Blatte finish is Ritchey's matte black treatment and pairs well with just about any build.
