Ritchey's WCS C220 84D stem borrows the wrap-around clamp geometry from the top-tier C260 without the installation gymnastics that stem requires. The C220 handlebar clamp design creates a more secure interface by wrapping a full 220 degrees over the handlebar, and bolt forces are aligned with the clamp so that the stem body embraces the handlebar, which is less prone to damaging lightweight bars. This clamp design allows for a lighter faceplate and stem body with no sacrifice in strength or stiffness. The trade-off compared to the C260 is minor — the bar drops into the clamp normally instead of having to be threaded through the stem body first.

The stem body is forged from 2014 aluminum for further weight reduction, and CrMo steel bolts are used throughout. That bolt choice is worth calling out: titanium would shave a couple grams but chromoly holds torque more reliably over repeated installs, which matters if you're the type to swap bars or tweak position mid-season. Four 4mm coated CrMo steel forward-facing faceplate bolts and two 4mm coated CrMo steel offset steer tube clamp bolts run 5Nm torque max on all hardware.

The 84D designation refers to the angle relative to the steerer, which works out to a plus or minus 6 degree rise depending on which way up you fit it . Flip it for a more aggressive drop or run it rise-up for a taller front end without adding spacers. Lengths run from 60mm to 130mm, steerer height is 42mm for a 1-1/8" steerer, faceplate width is 42mm, and the finish is Blatte — Ritchey's satin-textured black that hides scuffs from cable rub and bar tape wrap better than gloss.
